It finishes with hints of toasted coconut. Paradise’s flavor profile brings a lot of vanilla, interlaced with cocoa, biscuits and roasted malt. If you’re enjoying the beer right out of the fridge, these flavors don’t come through as much as if you’ve allowed it to warm up a bit. Paradise’s aromatics are reminiscent of baker’s chocolate, vanilla cream, toasted nuts and coconut shavings. True to its style, it pours a dark, almost black color with a tan head that quickly fades. Paradise is an Imperial Stout brewed with vanilla and coconut. Although we’re not in the worst of the winter just yet, Prairie Artisan Ales‘ Paradise will keep you reminiscent of those summer days, despite being a Stout. As always, we’d love to know how your tastings compare. As the weather cools off, you may be left dreaming of those warm summer days when you’re lounging out and soaking up the sun. Of course there’s a complexity too, and our tasting notes pick up floral notes, almonds, umami and a delicate funkiness from the brettanomyces. The resulting beer has a gorgeous oak character with prominent red wine tannin influence, bramble & berries and a fruity acidity on the palate. The fruit additions total ~75g/L in the overall blend, consisting of 40% cherries and 60% blackcurrants. A small addition of seasonal British fruit was added to some of the barrels. After blending the beer was returned to barrels for another 3 months (in red wine barrels from which part of the original blend was drawn, plus some bourbon barrels which previously housed Acid Jam). The barrel-aged beers were selected for their aroma and acidity. As loud and frightening as a twister is, as cool and laid back are the dudes from Prairie. One of the Amager crew is still terribly ashamed of sleeping through a tornado warning at a motel room somewhere in Oklahoma years ago, so out of respect for the powers from above we named the beer "Tulsa Twister". And naturally the style chosen for our collaboration had to be a Farmhouse Saison, a style that Prairie has very much excelled at brewing. So when these dudes were invited to the Copenhagen Beer Celebration it was only natural for us to invite them to Amager also. And well, the rest is history… Prairie - originally a gypsy operation - soon became one of the most buzzed about craft breweries, not only in Oklahoma, not only in the US, but in the world. Then, along came the brothers Healey, Colin and Chase, with guts, stamina and an awful lot of talent. Hopefully we don’t insult anybody by claiming that Oklahoma was quite a beer wasteland until just recently. Please note that the LCBO Ontario version is 8.8% ABV, but considered the same version.
